Betty Brock (Kolen) (1928-2018) - Class Of 1946

Betty Brock (Barkley) Kolen, age 90, of Millbrook, Alabama, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018. Betty was born in Montgomery, Alabama, on January 11, 1928. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Myrtle Brock, brothers Dan Brock and Peter Brock, and her sister, Irene Brock Sanford Judd. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, James A. Barkley, who was the father of her children, but the marriage ended in divorce. Betty later married Robert (Bob) Kolen, who also preceded her in death.

Betty was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School. Her career was centered on food services, including being assistant manager of the cafeteria at Bellingrath School, assistant manager of the Blue Moon Café, and as Director of Food Services at the former Union Bank. She also enjoyed catering for private events for many years.

Betty loved her church family at Coosada Baptist and enjoyed many trips and activities with her senior group. She loved music, dancing, and was always the life of every party, but delighted most in the company of her children, grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Betty will be deeply missed by her family. Her memory will be cherished by her children: son, Bobby Barkley, and his wife, Gail; daughter, Barbara Kelley, and her husband, Danny; son, Bill Barkley; and son, Brock Barkley, and his wife, Kay; and by her grandchildren: Lauren, Shayne and Bo Barkley; Chris, Amy and Andy Hardeman; Destin and Billy Barkley; and Christian, Joe and Jamie Barkley. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at 9:00 AM at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home, with a Celebration of Life at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens.
