Jean McCord (Upchurch) (1927-2011) - Class Of 1945

Jean McCord Upchurch died October 18, 2011.

Visitation will be at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 22, followed by funeral services at 2:00 PM at the church.  Private graveside services will follow. 

Jean was predeceased by her father and mother, Tom and Sarah McCord. 

Mrs. Upchurch was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on October 21, 1927.  She lived several years in Nashville, Tennessee, and moved to Montgomery in 1937. She attended public schools in Montgomery, graduating from Lanier High School in 1945.  She graduated from Stratford College in Danville, Virginia. 

She is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Jim Upchurch, Jr., two sons, James Taylor Upchurch, III (Buddy) and his wife, Tara, Thomas McCord Upchurch and his wife, Cheryl, and two daughters, Sarah (Sally) Upchurch Pierce and her husband Paul, and Eleanor Upchurch Lucas and her husband Henry. 

She was also Granny to eight grandchildren: Dennis Olive, Jr. (Shannon), Sarah Olive Parvin (Chase), Taylor Upchurch, Walton Upchurch, Summer Upchurch, Cady Upchurch, Luke Lucas (Jackie), Thomas Lucas, and six great grandchildren: Hunter, Chapman and Sarah Peyton Olive, Hayden Madison and Hallie Jean Parvin, and Rosemary McCord Lucas.

She was an active member of First United Methodist Church.  In her younger years she was a member of several civic organizations and served on boards of various ones. 

Pall bearers will be her grandsons:  Dennis Olive, Jr., Taylor Upchurch, Luke Lucas, Thomas Lucas, great-grandson, Hunter Olive, sons-in-law Paul Pierce and Henry Lucas, and nephew Charles D. McDonald. 

Honorary pallbearers will be members of her Sewing Circle.and their husbands: Hallie and Holman Head, Melba and Oakley Melton, Margaret and Atwood Rush, Betty Ann Key, Mary Haden Springer, Lois and John Durr, and Renis Jones.
