Mary Hobbie (Cahn) (1925-2011) - Class Of 1945

CAHN, Mary Hobbie died April 21, 2011. She was born in Montgomery County on November 9, 1925. She is survived by her daughter, Beryl Chesnutt; grandson David Culp; three great- granddaughters Misha Culp, Madison and Mary Charles; one stepson, Charles Cahn, and his children Chas, Amanda and Tim. She has two sisters: Elizabeth Wright Smith and Hobbie Freehling. Her brothers were Judge Walker Hobbie, Jr., William Livingston Hobbie, Wiley L. Hobbie, and Winston L. Hobbie. She has four nephews and five nieces. Three first cousins: Hobbie Cosby, Hayward Cosby and Lila Frances Hobbie. Mary was known for her artwork of both oil paintings and sculptures. She and her husband, Charles Cahn, owned Webbers on Monroe Street and The Name Dropper in Normandale Shopping Center. She was a member of the Temple Beth Or. In lieu of flowers, Mary requested that contributions be sent to Temple Beth Or and Faulkner University. Donations to Faulkner University will establish a memorial to Mary in the new library (Office of Advancement, 5345 Atlanta Hwy, Montgomery, AL 36109). Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Beth Or, 2246 Narrowlane Lane Rd.
