Dudley Williamson Griffin passed away on January 28, 2021 at the age of 92. He was born January 24, 1929 in Montgomery, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas Griffin and Anne Williamson Griffin of Montgomery and by his daughter Ellen Griffin Stephenson of Birmingham.
He is survived by his brother William Thomas Griffin, Jr. of Winterpark, Florida, his daughter Anne Griffin Thompson (Irby), his son-in-law Robert Villines Stephenson, nine grandchildren: Caroline Harwell Coffman (David), Elizabeth Stephenson Bohlke (Sanders), Robert Villines Stephenson (Morgan), John Dudley Stephenson, Irby Jones Thompson, Jr. (Katie), Thomas Williamson Thompson (Silvia), Lucy Margaret Thompson Israel (Whitt), Peter Owens Thompson (Haley), Anne Caroline Thompson Hill (Holmes), 23 great grandchildren and his dearest friend Margaret Sylvest.
Dudley graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and The University of Alabama where he served as president of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the United States Air Force before entering a lifetime career in the brick business. He had a lifetime love of the outdoors that expressed itself in a love of hunting, boating, arrowhead collecting, snow skiing, biking and spending time at "the coast". He served as Commodore of the Dixie Sailing Club on Lake Martin and competed successfully in many sailing races.
Dudley was a faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for almost sixty years and a long-standing member of the Gathering of the Saints Sunday school class. He never met a stranger, and always brightened a gathering with his winsome conversation. He especially enjoyed time with Margaret, his family, and his faithful "coffee buddies".
A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Wednesday February 3rd at 3pm.
