Mae Jean Gilmore (McClurkin) (1927-2017) - Class Of 1945 VIEW PROFILE

Mae Jean Gilmore McClurkin was Born February 2, 1927, passed away in her sleep on Friday, January 13, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents Baxton Grady Gilmore and Gladys West Gilmore, her husband Ira Daves "ID" McClurkin, Jr., in-laws Ira & Lois McClurkin, Jack & Dora Ann Wallace and niece Kitty Wallace. 

Jean is survived by her children, Kirk McClurkin, Davie McClurkin, Jeanie McClurkin Shaw, son-in-law Ray Shaw, two granddaughters, Catherine and Mary Kirk Shaw, niece Jacquelyn Wallace Takacs (Rich), three great nephews, two great nieces and lastly her caregivers, Marie Gulley, Barbara Wheat, Dorothy Kiser, and Baptist Hospice.

Jean was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School and Huntingdon College with an art degree. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church and past member of Woodland Methodist Church. 

During her earlier years, Jean was an active member of the Woodland Methodist Women's Circle, Pike Road Civic Club, Montgomery County Cowbells, and the Farm Bureau. She was known to be an excellent cook and won awards in local cooking contests. She had an eye for design in both fashion and architecture. Jean was the family seamstress, homemaker and essential supportive role for the family farm. She was known to be strong minded. Her love for family, friends, and country will be missed.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Leak Memory Chapel from 11:00 am til 11:50 am, with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 12:00 pm in the Chapel, and Burial to follow at Greenwood Serenity Cemetery. 

The family request that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church, Woodland United Methodist Church, and Wounded Warrior.
