Amy L. Barbaree (Arnold) - Class Of 1944

Amy Barbaree Arnold, born March 29, 1926, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016. She was preceded in death by her mother, Henrie Curry Barbaree and father, James F. Barbaree; husband, Henry S. Arnold, Sr.; sister, Mary Barbaree Parish (Robert); brother, James E. Barbaree (Martha); brother, Charles Thomas Barbaree (Anne); brother, Frank Barbaree (Warrene); and nephew, Daniel E. Little.

Amy graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery in 1944 and from the University of Montevallo in 1948 and taught Mathematics at Sylacauga High School. She was living in Sylacauga when she met and married Henry S. Arnold in 1949.

Mrs. Arnold was the recipient of the "Alumni Loyalty Award" from the University of Montevallo in 2000 and has kept the Class of 1948 together by organizing luncheons several times each year. She has been active in the Presbyterian Church Women's programs, taught Sunday School and worked with the youth and flower programs of the church.

Her hobby was gardening and flower arranging and she has served as an officer in the Drexel Hills, Woodmeadow and Shades Valley Council of Garden Clubs. She has been active with the Cub and Boy Scout programs and P.T.A. groups.

Mrs. Arnold has been active with her husband in the Alabama Chapter of The Eighth Air Force Historical Society and has served as Secretary and Treasurer, helped with their newsletter, "Prop Wash" and was awarded the Governor's "Veteran of the Year Award" in 2001.

She is survived by sons, Henry (Hank) S. Arnold, Jr. (Jill), Steven Thomas Arnold; daughter Linda Arnold Dunn (Richard), all of Birmingham and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Mrs. Arnold served as guardian of her sister-in-law Elizabeth's children. They are Daniel E. Little (deceased), Debbie Little Roan (Carl), Montevallo; William Edward Little, Birmingham; and James Keith Little, Jackson, GA.

Services will be at Southern Heritage Funeral Home at 11:00 am Saturday, August 27 with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Southern Heritage Cemetery.
