Cecil Edward "Gus" Guthrie, Sr. , SMSgt, Usaf (1925-2007) - Class Of 1943

GUTHRIE, Cecil E. "Gus" SMSgt USAF (Retired) 81, a Prattville resident passed away Friday, June 15, 2007. Graveside services will beheld Monday June 18th at11:00AM from Prattville Memory Gardens with the Reverend Glen Graham offici­ating. Mr. Guthrie was pre­ceded in death by a daugh­ter Jimi Lou Ledbetter, a son Cecil E. Guthrie, Jr., and a brother Joe Guthrie. He is sur­vived by his wife Nancy L.Guthrie, four sons; John F.Guthrie and his wife Cindi, Billy Guthrie and his wife Can­die, Joe Guthrie and his wife Susan and Thomas Guthrie; two brothers, Henry Guthrie and his wife Jo, Don Guthrie and his wife Gwen; a sister, Betty Donovan and her hus­band, Jimmy; a son-in-law, Dalton Ledbetter; three grandchildren, Krystal Led­better, Bekah Guthrie, Doug Guthrie and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr, Guthrie was a World War ll veteran, beginning his twenty seven years of military service with the U.S. Army Air Corps. After the war he reenlisted with the newly formed United States Air Force and served in vari­ous stateside and overseas posts including a tour of duty in Spain. He also served dur­ing the Korean and Vietnam era conflicts. He was an avid golfer and spent many hours enjoying the game. The fami­ly requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the American Can­cer Society. Visitation will beheld Sunday afternoon from2:00 to 4:00 PM from Ridout's Prattville Chapel.
