Robert "Bob" B. Gentry (1923-2011) - Class Of 1943

Robert B. "Bob" Gentry, 88, a longtime resident of Montgomery, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011. Bob loved his family and is survived by his daughters, Linda Singleton, Nancy (Buster) Gibson and Jane (Mike) Meriwether, all of Montgomery; son, Robert B. Gentry Jr. (Robin) of Daphne; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Bill Gentry (Jane) of Thomasville, Ga. He was preceded in death by his brother, Homer S. "Junior" Gentry Jr.; his parents Homer Stephen Gentry and Frances Collins Gentry; sister, Marjorie Gentry Hallman, his wife Annie Holley "Roonie" Gentry and his granddaughter Lara Stacie Gibson. He was a 1950 graduate of Auburn University, a WWII (Marines) and Korean (Air Force) war veteran and managed family- owned Francis Cafeteria until it closed in 1986. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be FUMC's Tower Class. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with burial following in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 30, at Leak-Memory Chapel from 5-7 p.m. and at FUMC at 9:45 a.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to FUMC.
