Jewel Rebecca Chalker (Ryals) (1924-2015) - Class Of 1943

A lifelong resident of Montgomery, Alabama, Jewel Chalker Ryals, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015, at home. She was 90 years young. Born October 25, 1924 in Montgomery she was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Thelma Chalker.

Jewel was a devoted wife, loving mother and a committed grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Eastern Star and served as Clerk of the District Court of Montgomery County for 32 years prior to her retirement.

James L. Ryals married Ms. Ryals on April 11, 1947 and were married for 31 years before Mr. Ryals' passing in 1978. Mrs. Ryals and her late husband were founding members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Becky Manz (Wolf) St. Augustine, Florida and Jean Rauckman (Charles Phillips) of Houston, Texas.

Also surviving are two grandchildren, Amanda (Rene) Garcia, Houston, Texas and Eva Seal, Jacksonville, Florida and two great-grandchildren, JT and Robbie Brown.

Mrs. Ryals is also survived by a sister, Marie Rhoades of Selma, Alabama.

A private graveside service was held at Greenwood Cemetery on Tuesday, March 31, 2015.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
