Joe Thomas Tisdale, Sr. (1921-2006) - Class Of 1942

TISDALE, Joe Thomas Sr., devoted husband and father, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday morning, September 14, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 17, at 3:00 pm at Leak-Memory Chapel, with Rev. Sam Persons Parkes officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 16, from 4:00-6:00 pm and on Sunday for the hour before the service, at Leak-Memory. Mr. Tisdale was preceded in death by brothers Kenneth Tisdale, Jackie Tisdale, and Robert Parker Tisdale; sisters Margaret Anthony, Madge Tisdale, Bette Sledge, and Lottie Gray; nephew Gene Tisdale; and granddaughter Eve Tisdale. He will be cherished in memory by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ellen Brawner Tisdale; son Joe Thomas (Jody) Tisdale, Jr. and his wife Emily of Ramer; daughter Sharon Harris and her husband Jimmy of Rydal Georgia; sister Norma Clotfelter of Moody, Alabama; grandchildren Dagny Fritz of Cartersville, Georgia, Ashley Groves, Buddy Todd, Bryan Hamrick and his wife Mary, Wendy Caraway and her husband John, and Jason Brown; great-grandchildren Kyle Barnette, Cody Barnette, and Kelsey Fritz; 17 nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. He was a civilian employee at Maxwell Air Force Base, where he met the love of his life. He was a committed Christian, a Bible scholar, a master gardener (growing what friends and family called the best tomatoes in the world), an avid fisherman, and a former minor-league baseball player. An active member of Capitol Heights United Methodist Church, he was a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a Bible-study mentor and an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Boatner, Monty Bogard, Marvin (Sonny) Ellis, Bennie Nolen, and Carlie Tatum. The family would like to express tremendous gratitude to Mr. Tisdale’s friends at Capitol Heights United Methodist Church and Dexter Avenue United Methodist Church, and would like to thank the fine people at Horizons Hospice Care for their in-valuable love and support.
