Sara Thames Tripp passed away 4, August, 2015, after a sudden illness. Mrs. Tripp was born July 10, 1923, in Greenville, AL and later moved to Montgomery AL with the Thames family as her father Howard Thames accepted a position with the State of Alabama Buildings and Grounds. Sara graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL.
She was a long time member of First Baptist Church where she was a primary Sunday school teacher for many years. She was an active member of the Daffodil Garden Club and enjoyed the fellowship with her friends in a local Sewing Circle. She cherished each of her faithful pets throughout the years and her faithful dog of 12 years, Maggie, preceded her in death in early spring 2015. Her life was further enriched with her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed travel and accomplished many destination trips with her husband Frank and family members. Sara was a resident of Elmcroft Senior Living and enjoyed her brief time there having made many new friends.
Funeral services will be 7, August, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Leak-Memory Chapel with Reverend Kenny Holmes officiating. A burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Tripp was preceded in death by her first husband, John Franklin Palmer, Sr. Lt., US Air force, 1953 and her loving husband of 50 years, Edgar Franklin Tripp; her parents, Howard and Sarah Thames of Montgomery, AL; her brother, Brudy Thames and her sister Elizabeth Thames Robinson.
She is survived by her two sons, Larry Thames Palmer and John Franklin Palmer, Jr. and wife Dale B. Palmer; daughter, Beth Tripp Whetstone. Four grandchildren, James Franklin Palmer, Melissa M. Gilbert, Sarah Elizabeth Raybon, and John Whetstone; 5 great-grandchildren, Emma Camryn Whetstone, Mackenzie Alysse Bell, Mary Carleton Gilbert, James Andrew Gilbert and Miller Elisabeth Gilbert.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until the service hour at 1:00. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Gilbert, Tilman Raybon, John Whetstone, Frank Palmer, John Palmer, David Smart, and Larry Palmer.
