William N. Rowell (1925-2011) - Class Of 1943

ROWELL, William N. "Bill", age 86, passed away peacefully at his Plantation, Florida home on April 18, 2011.  He was born and raised in Montgomery and graduated from Lanier High School. After attending Auburn University, he was commissioned as a C-46 command pilot for the US Army Air Corps flying the Hump in China to transport men and war materiel during WWII. After his honorable discharge, he settled in Birmingham where he married his beloved Madelyn (pre-deceased) and raised a family. Bill retired from Brice Building Company as senior vice president after his successful career in the construction industry. Bill served as president of Eastwood Kiwanis, president of the Alabama Associated General Contractors, and trustee for the Carpenters Health and Welfare Fund. He will be missed by his son, Bill Rowell (Gloria) of Dallas, Texas; his daughter, Kitty Preziosi (Bob) of Davie, Florida; brother-in-law Edgar Elliott (Betty Margaret) of Birmingham; his wife's cousin Mary Catherine Smith (Jimmy) of Dallas, Texas. The family asks that in lieu of flowers a contribution be made to either Woodlawn UMC, 118 55th St. No., Birmingham, AL 35212, or Plantation UMC, 1001 NW 70th Ave., Plantation, FL 33313. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 26, from 5 to 7 pm, at Ridouts Valley Chapel in Birmingham, with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham at 11 am on Wednesday, April 27.
