Ella Virginia McKenzie (Kurtz Dowdy) (1923-2016) - Class Of 1942

June 5, 1923 - Sept. 27, 2016

Virginia McKenzie Dowdy, age 93, passed away August 27.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, to Kenneth B. and Johnetta McKenzie she graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. Dedicated to her faith and church, she was an Executive Assistant to the minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Montgomery.

While in Yokota, Japan she spear headed a successful trip to take a truck full of clothes and food to a French orphanage in Korea. Back in the U.S. she became the Wedding Director at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, San Antonio, Texas, where she also managed, planned and prepared Wednesday evening family dinners with her husband.

For 20 years she was an active member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church in Vestavia, Alabama, participating in the Genesis Class. She was elegant, gracious, kind, fun-loving and fashionable.

She was blessed with 5 children: Craig (Ann), Paul, Lana, Philip (Becky) and Beth Kurtz, and with 7 grandchildren: Ian, Austin, Noel and Paloma Thom, and Jennifer, McKenzie and Adelaide Kurtz.

Jinny gained five more children: Joan (Joe) Mangina, Diane (Richmond) Flowers, Jim (Carol) Dowdy, Connie Hartley (Frank) Alverson and Davis Dowdy, along with 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Jinny possessed an amazing servant's heart and would desire that donations be made to:
