Helen J. Carothers (89), born April 8, 1924, went home to be with the Lord February 10, 2014 after a full and wonderful life. Helen was an exceptional lady. She loved her family and friends. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She served as head of the St. Margaret's Hospital Pink Ladies' Auxiliary for many years, worked for the State of Alabama, and raised three children. Helen especially enjoyed her Capitol Heights lunch bunch group.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Alexander H. Carothers, Sr. and her son, Alexander H. "Buddy" Carothers, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Carothers Stallings, son, Littleton B. Carothers, II (Ann), four grandchildren, Alexander H. Carothers, III (Susan), Taylor Stallings Parker (Jeff), Brooks Carothers, Owen Carothers; and, four great grandchildren, Brooks Carothers IV, Coleman Parker, Scott Carothers, and Holt Carothers.
Pall Bearers are Alexander Carothers, Brooks Carothers, Owen Carothers, Johnny Carothers, Jeff Parker, Rick Stallings, Art Steineker, and Gary Taunton. Honorary Pall Bearers are Frank Chalker, Ernie Gilmore, Wayne Hardin, Joe Simon, Gerald "Hop" Thompson. The family would like to acknowledge Helen's wonderful caregiver Faye Mays.
Visitation is Friday, February 14th at Leak Memory Chapel from 10:30-12:00 and graveside services to follow at 12 noon in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church or Children's Hospital of Birmingham.
