Janice May Wood (Brunnauer) (1923-2012) - Class Of 1941

Janice Wood Whitmire Brunnauer died at the age of 89 on September 7, 2012. Mrs. Brunnauer was born March 10, 1923, in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama, before graduating from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. She later received a Master's Degree in Music Education from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Mrs. Brunnauer taught school with the Birmingham Board of Education for many years and was later promoted to Program Specialist in Music. She had a passion for music and it was reflected in her work. She believed in the value of education at every level.

Mrs. Brunnauer lived in Leeds, Alabama on Ashville Road for 62 years, and for the last 5 years she has resided at Greenbriar at the Altamont, Birmingham, Alabama.

She was predeceased by husbands, John E. Whitmire of Leeds, AL, and Karl Brunnauer of Kuchl, Austria.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Whitmire Weber (Hal W.) of Cloverdale, Ca, and Marty Whitmire Pinion (Tom) of Helena, AL, and son John W. Whitmire of Leeds, AL.

She is also survived by her sisters, Sally Wood Johnson (Dr. James C.) of Birmingham, AL and Nancy Wood Rhead (Anthony J.) of Maggie Valley, N.C.

Survivors also include two grandchildren: Amy Pinion Royer (Mike) of Birmingham, and Major David W. Pinion, USMC, (Jackie) and 5 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Among her favorite interests were music, gardening, education, literature, art, quilting, and life in general. She was a remarkable woman.

The funeral service was held at Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 11:00AM. Visitation was held before the service at 10:00AM.
