Alice Varon (Kleinberg) (1922-2013) - Class Of 1941

Alice Varon Kleinberg, age 91, surrounded by her family, died at her home on December 21, 2013. She was born August 1, 1922, to Suzanna and Solomon Varon in Montgomery, Alabama, where she graduated from Sydney Lanier High School. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Herman (Cappy), parents, sisters Sara V. Segall and husband Sigmund and Regina V. Schulwolf and husband Max and brothers Nace and Morris Varon. She is survived by a son, Billy of New York City, NY, and two daughters and their husbands, Arlene and Milton Goldstein of Charlotte, NC, and Rhea and Raymond Schneider of Baton Rouge, LA. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Marion Varon (Nace) and Esther Varon (Morris). She was the proud grandmother of Alison and her husband Alan Lebovitz, Stuart and his wife Melissa Goldstein, Amanda and her husband Aaron Marks, Julie and her husband Michael Cummings, Jason Schneider, M.D., and Anabelle Kleinberg. She was especially fortunate to have known her great grandchildren Arthur, Abe and Levi Lebovitz; Noah, Layla and Ezra Goldstein; Murray, Ruby and Oscar Marks; and Carter and Isabelle Cummings. Mrs. Kleinberg's extended family provided steadfast support during her illness. The family expresses its heartfelt gratitude to her dedicated caregiver and friend of more than 15 years, Carol Grace. In addition, the family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by Wanda Williams, Nita Jackson and Annie Robinson. Funeral arrangements were made by Leak Memory Chapel. Graveside services were officiated by Rabbi Scott Kramer, and Mrs. Kleinberg was interred at Greenwood Cemetery on December 22, 2013. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Herman and Alice Kleinberg Perpetual Fund at Agudath Israel-Etz Ahayem Synagogue, 3525 Cloverdale Rd., Montgomery, AL 36111.
