Mary Lillian Shirley (Rosier) (1923-2018) - Class Of 1940

Mary Lillian Shirley Rosier died peacefully at her home on November 30, 2018. She was born March 1, 1923, in Montgomery Alabama to Lucille Shirley and James Spalding Shirley. She married James David Rosier on August 28, 1942, in Montgomery Alabama.

Mrs. Rosier was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, her sister Lucile Shirley Steagall, her brother James Clanton Shirley, her two sons James David Rosier, Jr. and Robert Kenneth Rosier, and her grandson Stephen B. Rosier.

Mrs. Rosier is survived by her daughter Mary Louise Rosier Wright of Pintlala Alabama and her son Richard William Rosier (Traci Lawrence Rosier) of Summerdale Alabama. She and her family relocated to Pintlala Alabama in 1972 where they built their home.

Mrs. Rosier was a 1940 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School and attended Massey-Draughn Business College. She was a member of the Pintlala Baptist Church, the Pintlala Computer Club which she organized in 1997, the Pintlala Historical Association, The Montgomery Genealogy Society, and the Montgomery County Historical Society where she was a volunteer.

Mrs. Rosier was the author of "Grace and Glory - The History of Pintlala Baptist Church". In 2001 she participated and assisted in the publication of "The Heritage of Montgomery County Alabama" and wrote many articles included in the book. She was also active in securing support for the Pintlala Water System and obtaining a Federal Grant to finance and establish construction of this system.

Mrs. Rosier was an avid genealogist researching the family surnames of Shirley, Rosier, Clanton, Howard, Few, Mahone, Pope, Flournoy, Hill, Carter and Cargile.

After 20 years of service as secretary to the Base Civil Engineering at Maxwell AFB, Montgomery Alabama, she retired in 1976. During this period Mrs. Rosier was awarded two Outstanding Performance Awards as well as two Sustained Superior Performance Awards.

Her love of music led her to become a member of the PTA Mothersingers Chorus, the Sweet Adelines, the Pilgrim Singers Senior Choir, and the Pintlala Baptist Adult Choir.

Services will be held at Pintlala Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Family Brunch 9 am, Visitation 10 am, Celebration of life service 11 am. Graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery 12:30 pm.
