Miss Gallis is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Annie Gallis, and her brothers, Angel Gallis and Nicholas Pete (Nick) Gallis. She is survived by her three godchildren: Ted Cumuze, Gregory Cumuze, and Maria Leach. She was born on November 19. 1921 in Georgia. She was a longtime member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, where she taught Sunday School for over 35 years. She also served on the church's Parish Council (the first woman elected to do so). Additionally, she served on numerous church committees in various positions over the years.
Miss Gallis retired from the Alabama State Department of Education after more than 30 years, many of those as a supervisor. The Alabama Association of School Personnel awards a Business Administration scholarship annually in her name. Miss Gallis was involved in various civic activities, including coordinator of the annual luncheon meetings for the State Department of Education Retirees, Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer, Crump Center volunteer for programs and projects for seniors, Alabama Retired Teachers Association, and a Family Court volunteer helping to provide Christmas for unfortunate children.
Family and friends of Miss Gallis would gladly like to thank John Knox Manor II, skilled nursing and memory care, for their loving and compassionate care.
To know Georgia was to love her, as she was a friend to one and all. She was a true Southern lady. She loved Jesus, Coca-Cola in a glass bottle, and chocolate.
