Robert Nelson Brassell, Jr. (1919-2008) - Class Of 1938

BRASSELL, Robert Nelson, Jr, born in Montgomery, December 4, 1919, passed away April 14, 2008. The son of Robert Nelson, Sr. and Ellen Lowery Brassell, he was pre­ceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Gertie Bee Watts Brassell and a brother, Fred.  He is survived by four daugh­ters: Brooke Tucker (Randy), Lauryn Moody (Bill), Leslie and Mary Nell Brassell; grand­sons Tom and Bob Tucker, Josh and Jacob Moody; granddaughter Rachel Moody Kelly; four great-grandchildren: Jackson Tuck­er, Laura Jane, Jeremiah and Micah Moody; brothers Tom, Bill, Charles, Malcolm, Sam,and one sister, Ellen Jancate­rino. His father passed away at an early age leaving eight children. Robert, being the oldest at 17, assumed respon­sibility for the family, caring for his mother until her death in 1985. He served with the United States Navy in the Pa­cific theatre during WWII. He was employed by the state Department of Industrial Rela­tions for nearly 40 years. After serving Highland Avenue Baptist Church as a Bible teacher and deacon, he was a founding member of McGehee Road Baptist Church, investing much in its care and upkeep. He lovingly crafted and installed the stained glass windows in the sanctuary. The family wishes to thank Baptist Hospice and Dr.Walter Geary for the care they have given, and the de­voted sitters who have faith­fully tended to this family. Services will be Friday, April18, at 11:00 a.m. at McGehee Road Baptist Church, Greg Murks officiating. Visitation 9:30-11:00 at the church.
