Mary Proctor, a lifelong resident of Montgomery, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, November 30, 2013. Miss Proctor was born on February 26, 1919. She was preceded in death by her father, Perry A. "Pete" Proctor, and her mother, Mary Hartsfield Proctor. She is survived by her first cousin, John P. Hartsfield (Nancy) of Montgomery. Miss Proctor was graduated from Huntingdon College and, in 1940, from the University of Alabama. She later earned graduate degrees from Tulane University. For most of her distinguished career she was Director of Child Services for the Alabama Department of Welfare (now DHW). She was a beloved member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and contributed generously of her time and spirit to her Sunday School class. In lieu of flowers, a gift to the Montgomery Humane Shelter may be donated in her memory. A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
