Sarah Randolph Lacy (Powell) (1917-2011) - Class Of 1935


POWELL, Sarah Randolph Lacy, died peacefully at her home, Wednesday, January 5, 2011. She was born February 10, 1917 to Medora Braxton (Dickins) and Benjamin Watkins Lacy, Jr. Sarah was a graduate of Huntingdon College and was a member of the DAR, Mayflower Society and the Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. She was a member of Episcopal Church of the Ascension where she taught Sunday School, served on the Altar Guild and founded the Children's Library. She was a first grade teacher at Dannelly Elementary School for 18 years. Sarah is survived by her children, Sarah Lacy Powell Pudner of Virginia, Medora Braxton Powell (Dale) Fahnestock of Maryland, Marie Bolling Powell (William) Hutchinson of England and John Rolfe Powell, Jr. of Montgomery; 18 grandchilden and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, John Rolfe Powell and granddaughter, Sarah Lacy Pudner. Funeral services will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery at Pike Road. The family will receive friends at the family home starting Saturday, January 8, 2011. Grandsons will be serving as Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be at the church Monday one hour prior to the service.
