In Memory Of Our Poets

Willie Madeline Baggett (1914-2006) - Class Of 1933

BAGGETT, Willie Madeline, (12/07/1914 – 01/01/2006), who was affectionately called Sister by family members, was a life-long resident of the Montgomery area. She began her working career in 1935, becoming the first female employee to be hired by the Highway Patrol, now the Department of Public Safety, where she was fondly referred to as Baby by her co-workers. Her faithful and loyal service to the state spanned 42 years prior to her retirement. Graveside services were held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. Noel Walker officiating. Miss Baggett is survived by her brother William R. Baggett, Jr. and his wife Dorothy M. Baggett, two nieces, Linda B. Gafford (John) and Bobbye Baggett (David) and a great-nephew Robert Bryan Gafford. The family wishes to give many thanks to her special friends and long time devoted care givers Marguerite Burkhalter, Jeanette Post, and Ruth Tucker as well as thanks to the staff of Camellia Lane Assisted Living Facility and Alacare Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross.  Leak-Memory Chapel Directing
