Theodora "Teddie" Kay Roth (Jones) (1944-2015) - Class Of 1962

Theodora Roth Jones

Theodora "Teddie" Roth Jones, age 71, of St. Augustine passed away Sept. 13, 2015, at the Bailey Center of Flagler Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, she is predeceased by her parents John Sim Roth and Alva Stephens Roth, and her brother, Phillip Roth.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Paul Jones; son Patrick Miller (Jill); granddaughters Rachel and Ashley Miller; son Jon Marshall Miller (Jennifer); sister Minna Roth Hill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Teddie graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, attended Auburn University and graduated from Huntingdon College. She taught elementary school over a 40 year span in Montgomery, Atlanta, the Department of Defense (DOD) School at NAS Sigonella, Sicily, and lastly in St. Johns County, Florida. While at NAS Sigonella, she was nominated by the DOD for a Presidential Teaching Award for excellence in elementary science, becoming a finalist. After retirement, she returned part time for several years as a reading and math tutor to special needs children at R. B. Hunt Elementary School.

In addition to her educational career, Teddie traveled extensively in Europe while living in Sicily, was an active participant in St. Augustine historical reenactment events, published a cookbook, and taught the art of hand sewing of children's clothing. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Parish in St. Augustine and was a guided tour volunteer at this historical church.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Oct. 10, 2015, at the Trinity Episcopal Parish Church, with the Rector, the Rev. Dr. David Weidner, officiating. 

Teddie was a lifelong advocate of early childhood education. For those wishing to make donations in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to the Trinity (Episcopal Parish) Early Learning Center (T.E.L.C) at the address above, or to an educational-based charity of your choice.  Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of the arrangements.
