Grace Scott (Lacy) (-2011) - Class Of 1930

LACY, Grace Scott, 97, of Anderson, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2011. She was born in Savannah, Georgia, the second of six children, to Thomas Baytop Scott and Kathleen Swain Scott. Grace married Benjamin W. Lacy, III in 1937, and in their 57 years together they raised three children: Ben, Tom and Kathy. Grace graduated from Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama in 1930. She received a teaching diploma from the State Teacher's College in Florence, Alabama in 1932 and a BS from Oglethorpe College in Atlanta in 1968. Grace's life was about her love and devotion to her family. She was "a steel magnolia" with all the strong will and determination that the term implies. She was also a gifted elementary school teacher who taught for over 50 years. She loved children, loved teaching, and her students loved her. Grace was predeceased by her husband Benjamin W. Lacy, III; her sisters Mozelle Scott Pointer, Mary Helen Scott Foster, and Priscilla Scott Crommelin, and great grandson Zachary Harp Lacy. She is survived by her children Benjamin W. Lacy, IV, Thomas Scott Lacy and Kathleen Lacy Cord; her brother Robert Scott and her sister Ann Scott Wood. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Montgomery, Alabama on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Leak-Memory Chapel Directing www.leak-mc.com
