Mary Virginia Johnson (Nelson) (1913-2014) - Class Of 1929

Mary Virginia Nelson, 101, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Howard B. Nelson, Sr., and brothers, William Roscoe Johnson, Jr., and Earl Thomas Johnson.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Nelson McNeese (Paul); a son, Howard B. Nelson, Jr. (Carolyn); grandchildren, Howard B. Nelson III (Jennifer), L. Bentley Nelson (Kelly); great-grandchildren, Howard B. Nelson IV, Alexander Wood Nelson, and Carter Lewis Nelson; and a brother, Ed Keller (Christine).

Mary Virginia was a precious & beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who loved and was loved by all. She had retired from Klein and Son Jewelers after 30+ years in the china department.   

In 1929, she penned the words to the Sidney Lanier High School Alma Mater. She enjoyed playing and teaching piano, and was pianist at Clayton St. Baptist for many years. She had a good life.

Her Visitation will be held Saturday, July 19, at 9:30 AM, at Leak Memory Chapel, followed by her Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
