NELSON, John H., 58, a resident of Tuscaloosa, died in Long Beach, CA, on January17, 2010, from complications of lung cancer. John was a successful sales representative for accessory and clothing lines for most of his career and enjoyed being on the road. He was born in Montgomery, AL, to Jeanne and Art Nelson, and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School before attending the University of Alabama. At Alabama, John was a proud member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He was an enthusiastic and loyal Alabama fan and hung on to see Alabama win the BCS championship. John also enjoyed golf which gave him the opportunity to spend time with good friends and to make new ones. He especially looked forward to reconnecting with friends annually at Jekyll Island. John was a charismatic gentleman with a great sense of humor who lived life fully and appreciated the value of true friendship. He will be missed but always remembered by those whose lives he touched in his special way. He is survived by his mother, Jeanne Nelson; sister, Jana Martin (Jerry); nephew Madison Martin and niece Mackenzie Martin both of whom he adored and spoiled; and so many dear friends. He was predeceasedby his father, Art Nelson. A private burial service was held in California, but a public memorial celebration of John's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Montgomery Country Club, 3001 NarrowLane Road, Montgomery, AL,36111.
