This is a [Facebook] post from Mack Sturdivant's son[, Matthew]:

Hello everyone this is Mack’s son Matthew, my dad was found this morning in his apartment and he is no longer with us. He was a great man who always had a smile for everyone and was a friend/mentor/father figure to many. More information on arrangements will be shared with everyone in the coming days.

Thanks to everyone for their support.

Huey Mack Sturdivant, 71, of Mobile, Alabama died on April 16th, 2024.

Mack was born July 21st, 1952 in Russellville, AL to Luther and Opal Sturdivant. He was an active kid, playing many sports and doing his best to always be on the go, a trait he would always possess. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama, and continued to Pensacola Junior College where he received his degree.

Mack proceeded to meet his love Phyllis Hatch and they got married in 1980. He began his teaching and coaching career in Alabama before settling in at Woodham High School. As a coach, Mack was a disciplinarian who always had a soft spot for his players. He was a part of many great state championship teams under the leadership of Coach Don Sharpe as well as many incredible players and coaches at Woodham.

As a teacher, Mack was a valued faculty member, with connections with students, parents, and teachers alike. He taught earth science for most of his tenure and greatly valued his time in the classroom.

Mack and Phyllis had their first and only child, Matthew, in late 1991. As Phyllis passed when Matthew was just a young boy, Mack took over the responsibilities of both the mother and the father, retiring from his job. While some of those skills (cooking) might have been challenging, Mack did his best and was an incredible parent to Matthew.

His favorite times were always involving sports with Matthew. That would include taking Matthew out of school to watch sports events, or watching his son play every sport under the sun, those who knew him were for Mack to drop all the latest stats of the teams Matthew was on.

Mack was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis and survived by his son Matthew.
