Terrell Daniel "Danny" Mills - Class Of 1970

Terrell Daniel Mills, lovingly known as Danny, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, after an extended illness. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, on September 17, 1951, to Terrell Grady Mills and Rose Marie Jordan Mills, he was the second of seven brothers.

Danny’s love for music blossomed early in life, particularly through playing the clarinet. A proud graduate of Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, he earned the prestigious John Philip Sousa Award in 1970, a testament to his musical talent and dedication. He continued his education at Troy State University, pursuing a degree in music education, and later achieved two master’s degrees—one in secondary-level music education and another in K-12 administration.

From 1975 to 2013, Danny dedicated his life to teaching in schools across Alabama and Georgia, shaping the lives of countless students through his passion for music and education. His unwavering commitment inspired generations of children to discover a love for music and learning, leaving a lasting legacy.

Danny is survived by his loving wife, Vickie Mills; his two sons, Christopher Mills (Kaitlyn) and Corey Mills (Madison); his grandson, Max Mills; his father-in-law, Dennis Burton; and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brothers, Mark Mills (Kim), Craig Mills (Janice), and Andy Mills (Sherry). Danny was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Marie Jordan Mills; his father, Terrell Grady Mills; his brothers, Claude Kelly Mills, Richard Allen Mills (Delores), and Donald Glenn Mills; and his mother-in-law, Betty Burton. His life will be celebrated by his family and friends, who will forever remember him for his humor, kindness, and profound impact on all who knew him.

Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2024, at Williams Southside Funeral Home and Memorial Park. Visitation from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Brother Bill Drummons will officiate.
