Sarah Elizabeth Prentiss (Fain) (1928-2023) - Class Of 1946

Sarah Elizabeth Prentiss Fain, 94, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents John Luther Prentiss and Vera Ruth Gomillion Prentiss; husband, James Clyde Fain Jr.; son, James Clyde Fain III (Jimmy); and nephew, Whit Matthews.

She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Lee Fain Garrett (Keith); sister, Mary Louis Prentiss Matthews; three grandchildren, Amanda Davis, Jay Fain, and Bryant Garrett; two great-grandchildren, Beau Davis, and Murray Fain; two Nieces, Kay Kendrick, and Valerie Patterson; two Nephews, John Maddox Jr and Ross Matthews.

Sarah was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1946. She attended Ward Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, and graduated with a General Academic diploma in 1948. Returning to Montgomery, she worked for Alabama Power Company.

She was married to James Clyde Fain Jr for 67 years. They were members of First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Al. She worked and retired from First Alabama Bank (Regions). She was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, and the Mothers Round Table. She was truly a “Southern Lady”. She loved her family, friends, and hand sewing.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on April 12, 2023, at First United Methodist Church Columbarium, Montgomery, Alabama.

The family would like to extend a word of gratitude to hospice, caregivers, nurses, church, and many, special and close friends for their endless support, love, and care throughout this time.
