Anna Louise Calhoun Duffy, 89, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in Montgomery.  A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, Louise was also a loving friend to many and a caring supporter of people in need. Married for 66 years to her beloved husband, Bishop Paul A. Duffey, she exemplified the devotion and dedication of "a godly woman" (Proverbs). In addition to Bishop Duffey, Mrs. Duffey is also survived by a daughter, Melanie Duffey Hutto and her husband David Hutto of Hendersonville, NC., a son, Paul A. Duffey, Jr. and his wife Tanya Duffey of Flowery Branch, Ga., five grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Mrs. Sue C. Montague of Charlotte, NC, and two brothers, Richard Calhoun of Troy, Al. and Dudley Calhoun of Atlanta, Ga. During her lifetime, she used her considerable creativity and talents as a teacher in public schools, as a loyal worker in her husband's ministry, as an eager volunteer for the Library for the Blind, as a member of P.E.O, a philanthropic organization, a member of New Era literary club and was a life member of United Methodist Women. Louise was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School and Huntingdon College where she was a loyal alumna. Huntingdon recognized Mrs. Duffey with the Loyalty Award and later conferred upon her the Honorary Doctorate of Human Letters degree. While living in Kentucky, Mrs. Duffey's intelligence and qualities were regonized when she was selected as a Kentucky Colonel, and an Honorary Senator of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Mrs. Duffey endeared herself to people wherever she went. Her friendly, compassionate and generous nature overflowed into a wide variety of interests, in people with special needs, in astronomy and the International Space Station, birds, flowers, hot air balloons and trees. She was a modest and self-effacing woman, devout and humble servant of God, and as many young ministers' wives have attested she had an amazing ability to lead, inspire and encourage. Visitation will be Friday, July 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 at Leak-Memory Chapel. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10 at First United Methodist Church.
