In Memory Of Our Poets

Efrem J. Hanson - Class Of 1984

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” -II Timothy 4:7

From his birth on November 5, 1966, in Brooklyn, New York to Mr. William and Mrs. Norma Jean Hanson to his transition to eternal life on June 20, 2020, Efrem was devoted to serving God, his family, and others with humility and love. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean Hanson; grandmothers, Norma Jean Hendrix and Geneva Hanson and grandfather, Charlie Hanson.

At an early age, he joined St. Jude Catholic Church in Montgomery.  His Christian journey on this earth ended with membership in the Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he had grown in love and grace and served faithfully in Sunday School on the Watch Care and Budget/Finance Committees until his health started to decline. Even though he could not attend services, he never gave up hope in Jesus Christ.

After graduating from Sidney Lanier High School, Efrem matriculated on a band scholarship at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU).  He loved his role in the Maroon and White Marching Band.  He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and was awarded a Master's in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University in 2000.

Efrem married the love of his life, Aundrea Davis on June 24, 1995.  He was a devoted and supportive husband and later a loving and proud father. To this union, they welcomed the joy of their lives, a son, Christopher Jamir (C.J.) Hanson. C.J. was blessed to have such loving and caring parents. Efrem, an only child, knew exactly what C.J. needed to succeed. With his giving spirit he also offered his love, words of advice, time, resources, and service to many other youths in the area.

His service to mankind included being a member of the Gamma Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and later a member and president of the Huntsville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. His assistance was warranted in the Guide Right Program for male youths.  He was well known in the North Alabama Pan    Hellenic Council.  He also served in several positions in the Huntsville Madison County AAMU Alumni Association and was a member of the NAACP for several years.

While at AAMU he was accepted into the COOP Program at George C. Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).    After graduation, he began his professional career with MSFC in 1990 and in 2010 he transferred to the Missile     Defense Agency at Redstone Arsenal where he recently retired.

Efrem leaves a legacy of love for his family and humanity, a commitment to service to others, and faith in God and oneself.  Those who will forever cherish his memories: his wife, Aundrea Hanson; son, Christopher Hanson; father, William Hanson; aunts: Gloria Wilkins (Emanuel), Barbara Green (Ed); special aunts: Joyce Coleman and Beverly Smith (Ronald); mother-in-law, Bessie Davis; sister-in-law, Yulelonda McKinnon (Richard); brother-in-law, Rexal Jackson (Malinda); special nieces, Starr Cliché Davis, Jabree Davis, Rikeyah McKinnon; special great-nephew, Jalen Travis; special great-nieces: Jersey McKinnon-Porter, Kylie Coleman-Davis, Harlow McKinnon-Porter, Lennox McKinnon-Porter; special cousins: Tracé Wilkins Francis (Michael), Monica Greene, Joseph Coleman (LaMonica), Cory Coleman (Shanel), Rodney Smith (Cindy), Abdul Saleem (Glenda), James Webster (Latasia); special great-cousins, Joseph Francis, Amirah Greene; godson, Jabari Robinson and goddaughter, Jahri El-Almin; special friends: James Robinson (Mary), Reggie Smith (Carmen), Vernon Daniel (Evelyn), Sedric   Barnett (Deanna), Eddie Whitehead, Ike Wilder (Adria), Pastor Abraham Moore (LaTonya), Michael Miller (Robin), Chris Calhoun (Brenton), Brian Woods (Tonya), Barry Kaigler (Felicia); the Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated (the 18 Dreams of Crimson and Cream); and a host of other loved ones and friends.
