Miles L. Vaughan, Jr. (1942-2010) - Class Of 1961

VAUGHAN, Miles L., Jr., of Auburn passed away suddenly on Friday morning, November 19, 2010. He was born July 22, 1942 in Opelika, AL and grew up in Montgomery. Mr. Vaughan served almost 40 years in the military (U.S. Army Active Duty, Alabama National Guard, and Army Reserve), retiring as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a veteran of Vietnam who served with the First Infantry Division and also as an advisor to the Vietnamese army with the MACV. He received multiple awards during his tour in Vietnam, including the Combat Infantrymen's Badge, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. In addition, he achieved Master Parachutist status, was Ranger qualified and Special Forces qualified. Mr. Vaughan worked in Probation and Parole for many years, eventually serving as Lee County's officer in charge before retiring in 2003. In retirement, he remained active in the Fraternal Order of Police, Twin Cities Lodge, as its secretary-treasurer. He enjoyed helping organize reunions with former military colleagues, traveling, having lunch with friends, and spending time with his family. Mr. Vaughan was preceded in death by his parents Miles L. Vaughan, Sr. and Edith Baker Vaughan. He is survived by his wife of 38 years June Rawlinson Vaughan; three children Kristin V. Kammermann (John), of Lincoln, NE; Amy Renee Vaughan and Miles Edwin Vaughan, both of Auburn; two brothers W. Terry Vaughan (Happy) of Orlando, FL and Robert E. Vaughan (Mayra) of Woodbridge, VA; one uncle J. Douglas Vaughan (Betty) of Opelika; and several cousins and other relatives. Services will be held at 2:00p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Jeffcoat-Trant Chapel, Dr. Howard Clonts officiating. Burial will follow in Town Creek Cemetery.
