Charles W. "Fats" Jones, Jr. (1936-2011) - Class Of 1954

JONES, Charles W. "Fats", 74, died Monday, February 22, 2011 at John Knox Manor after a long illness. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1954 and from the University of Alabama in 1958. He was a CPA and President of Ring- Around Products, Inc., 1973-78. He was also Executive Director of the Downtown YMCA. He was very active in local civic affairs. He served on the Montgomery County Board of Education, 1969- 74. In 1980, he became Executive Director of the Montgomery Lions Club Blue-Gray All-Star Football Classic. With insight and enthusiasm he led the Football Classic to new heights for 22 years. Survivors include: His brother, Robert Duke Jones of Montgomery; a son, Charles Paterson Jones (Sarah) of Greensboro, NC; a daughter, Beth Jones Loisil (Paul) of Niherne, France; two grandchildren, William Porter Jones and Madden Elizabeth Jones plus numerous beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 2416 W. Cloverdale Park at 2:30 pm, Friday, February 25th, with Dr. Lawson Bryan and Rev. Fred Fuller officiating. The family welcomes friends for a one-hour visitation before the service at the church. Honorary pallbearers include: Dr. James H. Alford, Richard Allen, D. Paterson Cope, Robert Andy Jones, Charles A. Stakely, William A. Williamson, John D. Yelverton. The family wishes to thank his caregivers at John Knox Manor and requests that memorial contributions be made to the Lions Club Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 94, 36111 or the Montgomery YMCA Partners with Youth Campaign Downtown Branch, P.O. Box 2336, 36102.
