Richard "Dick" Perrino Emmet (1929-2011) - Class Of 1947

Judge Richard Perrino "Dick" Emmet exited the world's stage on September 17, 2011 at the age of 82. He died peacefully at his home in La Jolla, CA, surrounded by his wife, loving friends and neighbors and his beloved pug, Miss Bea. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Amy Hinson Emmet. Other survivors include his son, Richard Thomas "Tommy" Emmet and daughters, Elizabeth Emmet Hare (Jay), Virginia Emmet Humphrey (Steve), Daisy Emmet Bear (Bowman), seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Lynn Hinson Ross. Dick was born in Albertville, AL in 1929 to parents, Joseph Herman "Dick" and Nanna McMullan Emmet. He was predeceased at a young age by his father, and later by his mother and his stepfather, Lennard Thomas, sister, Frances Alice Emmet Horn, and son, Charles Alston Thigpen Emmet. He attended the University of Alabama Law School, but his education was interrupted by his service in the US Army during the Korean War. After completing Law School, Dick practiced law in Montgomery, AL before becoming a Judge in 1959. During the Civil Rights era in Montgomery, AL, Dick had a distinguished career as a jurist. In his adopted home of California, he pursued his theatrical interest by becoming a dramaturge and working in most San Diego theathers. Cremation provided by The Neptune Society. As per his request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite charity or your local Pug Rescue.
