After College I worked for 36 years in the snack food industry with Golden Flake and Toms Foods.
In 1999 I opened Affordable Mortgage in Columbus,GA with my daughter in law.We became one of the top mortgage companies in Georgia and was named the Broker of the Year for the state of Georgia in 2005 and 2006.I was also President of The Georgia Association of Mortgage Brokers in 2006.
I retired at the end of 2009 but continue to be active in some commercial real estate projects, the stock market, and politics.
In the summer of 56.....Billy Ellisor,Howard Ellington,John Mcclure,Marlowe Reese and I had developed a scheme to hijack some of the cargo of the watermelon trucks coming up the hill by Huntington College.
The story of how we got caught by some angry farmers is too long to tell here but our exploits were told of in a book about growing up in Montgomery in the 50's called " ChinaBerry Summer".The author(Harris Green) later said that the watermelon heist was "urban legend".
In email conversation with the author,I let him know that it was not legend....it was fact... and told him how we pulled it off several nights a week.........until we got caught!
