RICE, Carolyn Hood, 94, a resident of Montgomery, went home to be with Jesus, Monday, March 29, 2010 at her residence. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from 5 - 7 pm at Leak-Memory Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Leak-Memory Chapel with Rev. William McNeese, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Rice is preceded in death by her husband, Fleetwood Rice, her sister, Eleanor Broadway and her parents, Brame and Carrie Hood. She was the granddaughter of Horace Hood, founder of the Montgomery Journal, later to become the Alabama Journal. She is survived by two children, Marilyn (Charles) Miller and Fleetwood (Shelia) Rice, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, a beloved niece,great-niece and great-nephew. She also leaves behind many spiritual sons and daughters.Mrs. Rice graduated from Lanier High School and then attended the University of Alabama for two years. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and a Miss “A” Day Finalist. Mrs. Rice was a noted spiritual leader and teacher who led many spiritual retreats over the years. She wrote a weekly newspaper column for the Montgomery Independent and had a weekly radio program. She also authored a book, “Enter Into Newness of Life.” Mrs. Rice was a faithful member of Harvest Family Church. Pallbearers will be Rev. Ed Bush, Judge Randall Thomas, Rev. Tom Bridges, Buddy Branch, Robert Macrory and Frank Atchison. Honorary Pallbearers will be the “Thursday Night Girls”, Martha Moore, Marcia Macrory, Dee Mooty and Linda Ford.
