Richard Hawk (1954-2023) - Class Of 1972

Richard Alan Hawk, age 69, passed away on Monday, September 4, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Ray Hawk, Sr. He leaves behind his wife, Debra Anne Hawk; two daughters, Amy Hawk Bridges (Brian) and Tina Hawk Conner (David); stepdaughter, Andrea Thornell (Adam); stepsons, Aaron Cox and Adam Cox, his mother, Barbara Bryant Hawk, brother, Dan Hawk, Jr. (Nancy); sister, Debra Hawk Henning (Terry); nephews, Jason Hawk, Jeremy Hawk, Lee Slaughter, and niece, Sarah Kichler; fourteen grandchildren: Bowen, Mary Elizabeth, Royce, Richard, Kellan, Reese, Clover, Eliana, Arabella, Addison, Ethan, Violet, Amy Jane, and David Brave.

Richard was born in Montgomery, Alabama on July 11, 1954, the third born to Barbara and Dan Hawk, Sr. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and afterward served in the Marine Corps. When he returned to Montgomery, he and his brother, Dan, established Hawk, Inc., now in its 45th year. Richard was an active member of civic and business organizations throughout his adulthood. More recently, he served on the board of Trenholm Culinary School, was an active member of a national buying group through his business, and was past president of his HOA.

Richard was a devoted husband and father. He loved the Lord, loved his family, and was the best Poppi ever to his 13 grandchildren. Everyone knew Richard for his sense of humor and gift of uplifting others through laughter. He enjoyed yard work, boating, relaxing at the beach and lake, music, playing with his grandchildren in his pool, and spending time with family.

Family and friends are invited for Visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home in Montgomery. Funeral services will begin immediately after at 2:00 p.m., with John Ed Mathison officiating. Graveside interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
