Sara E. Hudson (Martin) (1926-2022) - Class Of 1944

Sara Hudson Martin October 4, 1926 - September 3, 2022

Sara H. Martin passed away on September 3, 2022, in her home with her children around her. She was born in October of 1926 in Bessemer, Alabama. Sara grew up in Montgomery, Alabama where she attended Sidney Lanier High School.

In 1946, she and Joseph C. (Joe) Martin were married in Montgomery. Prior to marriage, Sara worked at Maxwell Air Force Base. After her marriage, Sara moved to Auburn, AL where she worked for the Alumni Office at Auburn. In 1954, Sara moved to Mobile with her family and lived there until 2008 when she moved to Westminister Village in Spanish Fort, Alabama.

While in Mobile, Sara was an active member of Springhill Presbyterian Church, volunteered at the University of South Alabama Hospital, was a charter member of the Wimbledon Garden Club, and was a former member of the Fort Conde chapter of the DAR. She served on the boards of the YWCA, the Visiting Nurses Association, the Florence Crittendon Home, and the Arthritis Foundation.

Sara was predeceased by her parents, Ezelle D. and Albert G. Hudson, her husband, Joseph C. Martin, of 44 years, and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by daughters, Beverly Martin Yeager (David) and Gilda Martin Bunt (Alan); six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Sara's Kindred Hospice team and the caregivers of Homecare Companions.

The family held a private graveside service. Memorials may be made to Springhill Presbyterian Church, Mobile, Alabama.
