In Memory Of Our Poets

John Stephen 'Steve' Leach (1960-2023) - Class Of 1978

May 24, 1960 - October 17, 2023

Stephen passed away unexpectedly after a lengthy illness. Originally from Montgomery, Alabama, he was a graduate of Faulkner State College in Foley, Alabama, and Holiday Inn University in Memphis, Tennessee.

After many years in the hospitality industry in Gulf Shores, Alabama, St.Louis, Missouri, and Pensacola, Florida Stephen relocated to the Great Smoky Mountains over a dozen years ago and started his design firm, The Copper Forest.

Stephen loved his life and lived it to the fullest. He never met a stranger and always had a kind word and a bright smile for all he met.

Stephen was active in many charitable organizations including Friends of the Smokeys and Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic.

Memorial donations in Stephen’s honor may be made to Mountain Hope Good Shepherd Clinic in Sevierville, TN.

Mr. Leach is survived by his spouse, Barry Phillips of Gatlinburg. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Margaret Hill Leach, and Father, Homer Johnson Leach of Montgomery. Additional survivors are Sisters, Debbie (Alan) Blackmon of Montevallo, Alabama, and Beth (Bobby) Trotter of Montgomery, and Sister-in-Law, Theresa (Terrell) Berryhill, Raleigh, Mississippi; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He especially loved his two fur babies, Gatlin and Zoey; and special friends, Tracie and Carl Story, Sandy and Mark McCown, Shelley Genseal, and Gay Lane.

A special thank you to his Covenant Home Health Care Family. You guys were and are simply incredible.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM on Saturday, October 28th at First United Methodist Church, Gatlinburg with memorial service to follow at 3 PM. Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com
