Connie Casey (Harris) - Class Of 1973

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV - Connie Jo Harris, 67, of North Las Vegas, NV, passed away on August 17, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer.

She was born to parents Beverly June (Eldringhoff) Casey of Beloit, and Guy Casey, Jr. of Glen Elder, on October 2, 1955, on Craig Air Force Base in Selma, Alabama. She grew up as an “Air Force Brat” on bases primarily in the West.

She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama in 1973, Her love of theater led her to study at the University of Southern Alabama in Mobile.

She then moved to San Francisco and ultimately Las Vegas, Nevada, where she worked at the Starboard Tack as one of the first female bartenders in Las Vegas. She also owned and operated the Fresh Times Inc. Deli with Domenic Vertucci. From there she went on to various jobs in the food and beverage industry until beginning her ultimate career and continuing education with the College of Southern Nevada.

She went on to study Applied Sciences - Floral Design Technology at the College of Southern Nevada and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Ornamental Horticulture. She was nominated and won the Student of the Year Award at her 2005 graduation. She was named Employee of the Year in 2007 while she was a part-time teacher in Ornamental Horticulture. She loved floral design and was passionate about teaching others. She was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Design in 2014 and was Southwest Chapter President 2021-2022, She joined other various programs such as the Classified Council and Leadership Academy. Other awards include the 2014 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award and the 2015 Woman of Influence for Classified Council. She closed out her time at the College with her friends and colleagues in the ITVAC Department.

Connie Jo and her soulmate, Randy Harris, were married on November 30, 2002, in Las Vegas, NV. They brightened each other’s lives and always pushed each other to do better. They enjoyed a life of laughs, love, nicknames, music, dancing, concerts, and schnauzers!

Connie Jo loved music and felt like a hippie at heart.

She loved to brighten the lives of friends and family with beautiful floral designs and was genuinely loved by everyone she met.

Connie Jo is survived by Randy Harris, Husband, Courtnie Hicks, Daughter, Robert “Bo” Hicks III, Sonin- Law, Cynthia Casey Donaldson, Sister, Tom Donaldson, Brother-in-Law, Michael Casey, Brother, and Betty Casey, Sister-in-Law, and Bonnie J. File, Aunt. She was preceded in death by Guy Casey Jr., Father, and Beverly June Casey, Mother.

There will be no immediate services, however, a Celebration of Life date will be announced at a later time.
