Isn’t this interesting! We both were born in Oct ‘53, became nurses, have 2 children, have retired and live in counties along the Gulf now.
I am married now for 30 years, having divorced Mike Armstrong (children’s Daddy) in 1980.
I have 4 stepsons living in surrounding towns around Montgomery.
My son, Mike, Jr (45) is in Trussville working as a building contractor with a large company.
My dau, Melissa A. Yarbrough (43) is in Fairhope working remote in HR profession for CGI, international company of all sorts that I yet to grasp. Husband, Chad (46) roomed in athletic dorms w/my son when they attended TSU & played football. Chad is from Dadeville, AL.
Melissa & Chad plus all my Auburn family (3 sisters & mom) live/lived in Auburn, mama & older sister Jackie Class of ‘70, are excited as I am following this last weekend’s Auburn Softball Tournament as eldest granddau Samantha Yarbrough a Sophomore transfer from USA Mobile was MVP for her start-off pitching success. She is living out the dream I wanted but abandoned due to lack of support in State of AL public school & college girls sports. I will never forget having formed a basketball team in fall 1969-1970. Mr Adair told PE coach she would have to take us as “YWCO” because it was against the Lanier creed plaque on the 1st floor!
We played that one game against St.Jude private school & disbanded! 1974 legislation passed for equal girls funding for sports & scholarships. FYI: About 10 yrs later, PE coach quit teaching; went to TSU(M) Associate degree and became a nurse. We both were at Jackson Hospital together. She eventually went back to the Bd of Education as a school nurse in the rough primary schools of Montgomery until she retired.
