Richard Paul Warren (1943-2023) - Class Of 1961

Richard P. Warren, resident of Pike Road, Alabama, passed away at home Thursday, March 9, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jeffrey Cole Warren.

Richard was born in Gadsden, Alabama, the son of the late Alden C. Warren and Elizabeth Andrews Warren. His family moved to Montgomery when Richard was age three. He graduated from Sidney Lanier, where he participated in cross-country track, and earned a degree in business administration from Auburn University, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon. He earned a Juris Doctorate from Jones Law Institute (University of Alabama) in 1972.

Richard became President of Southern Finance Co. after his father’s death in 1964. During this time he served as director of the Alabama Lenders Association and was active with the Montgomery Jaycees, where he held the position of State Director. He served in the Army National Guard for six years.

Richard purchased the Normandale location of Dad and Lad Clothing and revamped the store into a young men’s clothing store naming it Richards Clothing. Later in life, he was employed as a sales representative for several companies including TechCorp (Diebold). As a young man, he enjoyed scuba diving, motorcycling, and sports cars.

During his retirement years, he was interested in stock investments, reading current information on stocks and investing. He also enjoyed viewing documentaries and news channels.

Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dr. Janet Shell Warren, and his daughter, Ashley Marin Warren, and by many extended family members.

A private family service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.
