Mrs. Betty S. Perdue (Singing 1966 -1968)

Betty Seymour Perdue - age 94, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama passed away January 4, 2024, after a very long and fulfilling life. Betty's family and friends visitation will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109. Following the visitation there will be a private family graveside at 11:00 AM at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109.

Betty was born in Dothan, Alabama in 1929 to Tarleton & Mattie Ethel (Hardy) Seymour. Musically gifted, she attended Huntingdon College on a music scholarship & while there met Glenn (O. G. Perdue, Jr), the love of her life. They married Dec 24, 1953, and were devoted to each other through 58 years of marriage until Glenn died in 2012.

Throughout her life, she collected honors for her service as a musician, teacher, music educator, board member, arts visionary, and community and state leader. Betty began her career as Director of Music and Education at the Forest Avenue Methodist Church. Three years later, she became a Director of Choral Music in the Montgomery City school system, later she became the Music Supervisor of all Montgomery County Schools, then moved to the state level and was the Alabama Department of Education's Supervisor for Music & Arts when she retired in 1996.

During retirement, she became a board member and supporter of various charities and artistic organizations and was one of the visionaries behind the establishment of Montgomery’s Vann Vocal Institute. Through her knowledge of music, her devotion to her family, and her charities, she touched so many lives. Sharing the beauty of music was her life, her love, her passion, and her joy.

Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband Glenn, brothers Wallace Seymour & Terry Seymour, sister Winifred Mitchell, her brother and sisters-in-law Warren Mitchell, Carolyn Seymour, and Mary Virginia Perdue Stanford. She leaves behind sister-in-law Lynn Seymour, brother-in-law Allen Perdue, and many beloved nieces, nephews, dear friends, and former students.
