Franklin G. Mixon (1934-2021) - Class Of 1953

Frank "Brother" Mixon, 86, of Eufaula, Alabama, died Friday, June 11, 2021, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.

Graveside services were held Monday, June 14, 2021, at 11 A.M., in Fairview Cemetery Addition. Dr. Ken Bush officiated with Chapman Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Tunnels To Towers 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, New York 10306.

Born June 16, 1934, in Montgomery, Alabama, Mr. Mixon was the son of the late Eldred Orestes and Cynthia Lucinda Brantley Mixon. He was a 1952 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War. In 1961, he received his B.S. Degree in Building Science from Auburn University. He owned and operated Blondheim & Mixon, Inc. for over 40 years. Some of the works of Blondheim & Mixon, Inc. includes the Poultry Science Building, the Pharmacy Building and the College of Architecture, Design and Construction at Auburn University; the 1st edition of Bryant Denny Stadium, the Aquatic Center and the renovation of the Baseball and Softball Complex at the University of Alabama; the College of Business at Auburn University at Montgomery; the Administrative Building at Troy University; the Baseball Complex renovation, funded by future MLB Hall of Fame Pitcher Tim Hudson, at Chattahoochie Valley Community College; the American Village in Montevallo, Alabama; the current Eufaula High School, the current Tiger Stadium at Eufaula High School, the Admiral Moorer Middle School, the Alabama Power Company Building, the Eufaula Housing Authority Building, the Eufaula Fire Department, the Eufaula Country Club, Techsonic, Lakepoint Resort, the Eufaula Chamber of Commerce, the Barbour County Courthouse; and the Alabama State House and the Gordon Persons Building in Montgomery, Alabama.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years: Joan Mixon of Eufaula, Alabama; his children: Sunny Mixon (Jim) Mackie of Columbus, Georgia, Lu Mixon (Ronnie) Rivera of Birmingham, Alabama, Franklin G. (Darlene) Mixon, Jr. of Columbus, Georgia, Clinton Paul (Linda) Mixon of Columbus, Georgia, Page Mixon of Opelika, Alabama; 12 grandchildren: Rhett Rivera, Frankie Rivera, Andie Rivera, David (Melissa) Mackie, Daniel (Crystal) Mackie, Brett (Ruby) Mackie, Taylor M. (Max) Hewitt, Katie Mackie, Trey Mixon, Sparks Mixon, Cody Hill, Brantley (Noah) Hill; 8 great-grandchildren: Charlotte Mackie, Micah Mackie, Lila Mackie, River Mackie, Dallas Mackie, Ezra Mackie, Caroline Thompson, Wren Thompson.
