William Chesley Bowman, III died on July 23, 2023 at home in Montgomery, AL at the age of 89. He is preceded in death by his parents William C. Bowman, Jr. and Ellen Sanderson Bowman, and his wife of sixty six years, Lida Tunstall Cobbs Bowman.

He is survived by his daughters, Lucy Pryor Bowman Brady (David) of Mobile, Alabama and Ellen Cobbs Bowman Shields (John) of Arrington, Tennessee, granddaughters Lucy Pryor Brady Slaton (William) and Charlotte Carrington Brady Wall (Kyle), great grandchildren Brady Elizabeth Wall, Kyle Lawrence Wall, Jr. and William Bowman Slaton of Mobile, Alabama.

Bill graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and he received a B.S. from the University of Alabama and an MBA from the University of Bridgeport. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Bill retired from his career of Marketing Petrochemicals and moved back to Montgomery in 1991. He and Lida enjoyed their Catoma Creek farm where they raised cattle and chickens. Bill was a lifelong passionate supporter of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

A family graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens in Montgomery, Alabama.

Memorial donations may be made to the Montgomery Area Council On Aging, Nick’s Kids Foundation, St. John’s Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice.
