Norma Gene Schwinn passed away on November 30, 2021, after a two-year battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Montgomery, Alabama on June 27, 1924, to Beatrice and James Taylor. Norma is preceded in death by her husband.

Norma went to Sidney Lanier high school and the University of Alabama. She married Leonard Robert Schwinn, Jr. on November 20, 1948, and after living in Birmingham, Mobile, and Montgomery, Alabama. They moved to Columbia, South Carolina.

Norma Gene was an active member of Shandon Presbyterian Church, the Ray Riddle Sunday School class, and received the Lifetime Member Award from the Presbyterian Women having served in many capacities.

Norma Gene always felt closest to God in her beloved North Carolina mountains.

Surviving is her son, Leonard Robert Schwinn, III; daughter, Norma Schwinn Weldon (Allan); grandchildren, Jacob Logan Schwinn, Miller Elizabeth Schwinn Elam (William), Stefan Burgess Schwinn, Laurie Jean Weldon, Daniel Allan Weldon, Robert Hugh Weldon; and great-granddaughter, Aveline Antoinette Elam.

The funeral service for Mrs. Schwinn will be held at 12 o'clock on Friday, December 3, 2021, at Shandon Presbyterian Church, 607 Woodrow Street, Columbia, SC.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Davis Hall. Private interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC. For those attending the service, it is requested that you wear a mask and maintain a reasonable amount of distance to create a safe environment for all.

Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
