William Dewey "Sonny" Waters, Jr. died at 9:30 P.M., Thursday, August 18, 2016 at UAB Hospital after a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his father, William Dewey Waters, Sr. and mother, Alberta Duke Waters.

Sonny was born December 23, 1941 in Montgomery, Alabama and was a lifelong area resident. He served in the United States Navy and was a firefighter in Montgomery County. He was also a maintenance engineer at Baptist hospital.

Sonny is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Ann Waters; sons, William Steve Waters and Kevin Dewayne Waters; sisters, Florence Conway and husband Jerry Conway, Ruth Shiflett and husband Barry Shiflett; brothers, Huston Waters and Ronnie Waters; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a long-time friend, Judy Pirtle.

A memorial service will be held at Bradford's Chapel , 2091 County Road 29, Tuskegee, Alabama on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. Reverend Lori Shelton-Puckett will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bradford's Chapel in his memory.
