Dr. Thomas Magruder Wheeler (1919-2012) - Class Of 1936

Dr. Thomas (Tom) Magruder Wheeler, age 93, of Montgomery passed away at home on August 14, 2012. Born April 20, 1919, he grew up in Old Cloverdale, graduated from Lanier High School, Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University), and the University of Louisville School of Dentistry.

After practicing dentistry for a total of 50 years in Birmingham at TCI Hospital, in the Army in Germany during the Korean War, and in Montgomery for many years, he retired in 1991.

Tom was an active member of the Kiwanis Club for many years. He loved his workshop and over the years made many fine pieces of furniture for family and close friends. He also was an avid reader. He grew up in and was a faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where he taught The Strong Men's Sunday School Class for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. George M. & Annie Mae Wheeler, brother, George M. Wheeler & grandson Russell M. Wheeler. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Elizabeth S. Wheeler, daughters Betsy Pittman, & Marianne Gum (Keith), sons Dr. Tommy Wheeler (Jane) & George Wheeler (Crystal); 12 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Friday, August 17, 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. Claude McRoberts and Mike Howell will officiate. Family and friends will assemble at the gravesite.
