Marion Augustus "Gus" Hamilton Baldwin (1925-1988) - Class Of 1942

Marion Augustus Hamilton Baldwin was the son of Marion Augustus Baldwin and Alice Hamilton Baldwin.  Born on May 19, 1925 in Buffalo, New York, "Little Gus," as the family called him, but Hamilton, as he prefered to be called, was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama.  He was the fourth generation in his family to attend Alabama Polytechnic Institute in Auburn, Alabama, having enrolled September 7, 1942.  While at Auburn, he joined Kappa Sigma fraternity, but her transferred to the University of Alabama shortly thereafter.  World War II interrupted his college career, and he served in the Army.  Upon his discharge, he returned to his studies at the University of Alabama receiving his BS in 1948.  Gus received his MS degree from the School of Advanced International Studies in 1949.  He later served in the United States Foreign Services in Germany and was appointed Vice-Consul Secretary in the Diplomatic Service.

Gus married Elizabeth Ann Speer on March 26, 1948, and they had one son, David Baldwin.  Gus passed away on December 18, 1988 in San Francisco, California, and is buried at the family plot in Oakwood Cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama.
