Harold Hubbard Livingston, a resident of Tupelo, MS since 1982, died on August 8, 2013 at Sanctuary Hospice after an extended illness.
Harold was born on May 28, 1948 in Troy, Alabama to Willard Wise and Ann Key Murphree Livingston. His family moved to Montgomery, Alabama when Harold was a child.
Harold graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. He attended the University of Alabama graduating with a BA degree in History followed by a BS degree in Commerce and Business Administration. While at the University of Alabama he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity. Upon his graduation from the University of Alabama Harold was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He retired as a major in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1990.
He began his banking career with Union Planters Bank in Memphis. He then went to work for Central Bank, now known as Compass Bank, in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1982, he left Birmingham to become the Commercial Loan Administrator for The Peoples' Bank and Trust Company (Renasant Bank) in Tupelo. Harold was a graduate of the LSU School of Banking and ended his career as Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Credit Officer for Renasant Bank.
In addition to his banking career Harold served as President of the Tupelo Kiwanis Club and also served two terms as a member of the vestry of All Saint's Episcopal Church. He served on the Board of Governors of Tupelo Country Club and was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Troup 12.
Harold loved the outdoors, his profession and Alabama football but most of all he loved his family and friends.
On the day Harold was born he brought smiles to the family who welcomed him. His grandfather, (Judge Ed Livingston, Alabama Supreme Court) looked at Harold's white hair and remarked, "Now, this is Smokey!" The nickname followed him for the rest of his life.
Known for his kind, calm manner Smokey was dearly loved by his friends and family. His reserve and common sense made him highly respected within the banking community.
Harold is survived by his wife of thirty years, Carolyn, one step-son, Michael Perri (Katie) of Tifton, Ga. a granddaughter, Reagan Perri, his son, Captain Cooper Livingston, USAF (Jocelyn) of Clovis, NM, and his daughter Elizabeth Johnson (Will) of Jackson, Tennessee.
Harold is also survived by his siblings: Willard W. Livingston, Jr. (Margaret), Edwin K. Livingston (Louise), Ann L. Ray and Amy L. Goff (Randy) and five nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at All Saints Episcopal Church on Sunday, August 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. and on Monday, August 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with The Rev. Paul Stephens and Rev. Stanford Adams officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sanctuary Hospice or All Saint's Episcopal Church in Tupelo.
